Beaches Golfito, Costa Rica

Playa Cacao

The beach known as “Playa Cacao” lies opposite from the Golfito waterfront and is reached by a 10 minute boat ride across the bay.

On a gravel road, you can reach the beach too, but that may require a 4x4 car and is best in the dryer season.

Certainly, this small, beach strand is not overwhelming in beauty. But is, however, an absolutely worthwhile excursion.

The simple homes, huts and 2 bars on the beach generate a cozy and pleasant atmosphere where you can enjoy a cold drink and a swim.

Juan’s restaurant always offers fresh and delicious fish cooked in a traditional style.

Suggestion: A taxi boat to Playa Cacao for a drink or lunch and a long walk back by the rock road would be a beautiful day trip.

Playa Zancudo

The beach known as “Zancudo” lies to the south of Golfito and is reached by boat, bus or car.

It is a small community on a beach strand nestled between the Rio Coto and the Golfo Dulce Bay.

It is an excellent place to swim with a long sandy beach to relax or walk. There are many small restaurants and bars to take care of you as well as various places to stay.

Suggestion: Take a taxi boat trip from Golfito Bay through the magical mangrove swamps, over the entrance to the Coto River to Zancudo Beach. Enjoy your day, returning by taxi boat via the Golfo Dulce Bay. (You might reverse the route of the taxi boat, depending on the tides and hours of departure.)
